Born in Wednesbury in 1950 and brought up there by my parents Pat and Tony. I went to University in York for 3 years in 1968 before starting work in Chesterfield for the Post Office at the end of 1971.
That didn't last long as I moved within the company to the Computer Centre in Derby at the beginning of 1972.
There I met my future wife, Barbara Gratton , and we became married in 1974. First child, Danielle, was born in 1975, and second child, James, in 1979. They were both born in Belper Hospital - a frantic 20 minutes drive from our home.
:DIn 1980 I achieved promotion, and we all moved down to Aberbargoed near Cardiff. The Post Office split to form British Telecom in 1982, at which time we moved nearer to my workplace to live in Caerphilly.
After a very short time in Caerphilly I gained my second promotion and we moved to work at a new Computer Centre in Cambridge in 1985. We lived in a small village called Little Downham, close to Ely.
After 4 years of significant ups and downs in the job the Computer Centre closed in Cambridge, so we moved down to Colchester in 1989 to work in the Computer Centre there, living in the village called Ardleigh.
Although the job significantly changed, moving into Networks instead of Computing, and then working in Martlesham, just North East of Ipswich, for 3 years, I took early retirement in 1998, followed by my wife taking early retirement in 2007, and we still happily live in Ardleigh. Most of our migration was job related and since there there is no longer any requirement to move, I suspect that this is where we will stay.
